2026-2027
School Year

Preview

As our inaugural year continues, we look forward with eager anticipation to our second school year, in which we will direct our Grammar and Pre-Grammar programs using Schola Rosa's Cycle 1: Ancient and Classical Times.

Re-Enrollment Registration will OPEN for current (returning) families only on February 15. Families will register on the website in the same way as last year, paying the $300 family enrollment fee to secure their spots and choosing their volunteer positions and upper level course selections as well.

*NEW* (Prospective) families hoping to join will have the opportunity on March 1, when they will submit an application and sign up for an interview with 2-3 SLT members. If accepted into the co-op, they will then be given the link to complete registration online.

TIMING CHANGE

Like this year, we will begin our day with the following:

  • 8:30-9:10 a.m. Daily Mass

  • 9:25 a.m. Announcements, morning prayer

  • 9:30 a.m. All levels except Grammar level are dismissed at 9:30 for classes; Grammar students have Assembly and Chorus at 9:30 in the main hall. Classes run until 12:50 with varied class period times across the levels.

  • 12:50-1:50 p.m. Lunch in the Large Hall; Recess outdoors!

  • 1:50-2:00 p.m. [10 minutes] cleanup and line-up. Because we will have the main hall cleaned up before we go to +PLUS, we will not re-enter the hall building after this.

  • 2:00-2:45 p.m. +PLUS class; 2:45 dismissal to back corner classrooms for parent pick-up.

Note for returning families: The only timing change from the inaugural year to the next will be that the Lunch and Recess time has been extended to a full hour with built-in community cleaning time afterwards. This will allow us to maximize our time in PLUS Classes and all leave quickly thereafter feeling accomplished but not worn out!

PG

Pre-Grammar (Ages 3-5)

Our Pre-Grammar Program does not vary greatly from year to year, even when the historical time periods being studied change. Pre-Grammar focuses most directly on virtue building, Level One CGS Atrium time, fine and gross motor skills, pre-writing, play-based learning, and crafts. In other words, children enrolled in Pre-Grammar can expect VERY similar programming to what was done in 2025-2026. (Click link to see what to expect).

The only noticeable difference will be that for the 2026-27 school year, the Deep Dive science subjects will focus on what is covered by the Grammar Program: Plant & Animal Life.

G

Grammar Levels (Grades 1-6)

Grammar Level will cover memory work from Schola Rosa Cycle 1: Ancient and Classical Times, and it will include Plant & Animal Life.

During the co-op day, four class periods will include the following:

Assembly: Chorus, Virtue, and Timeline are covered in Assembly

Art: Art I projects in co-op

Science: Botany (Plant) & Animal Life projects in co-op, as well as the math memory work, will be covered in this class

Religion:

  • Atrium: Abbreviated time with L2 Atrium presentations for students in Grades 1-3, or

  • Into the Deep: Level 2 for students in Grades 4-6

Homeroom: Schola Rosa Memory Work including Geography Alpha Maps (Asia & Australia), Ancient History, Great Words 1 (LG) or 2 (UG).

+PLUS (optional after-lunch class): Cycle 1 Ancient History Literature Discussion and integrated Grammar Workshop course (See below*).

D

Dialectic (Grades 7-8)

During the co-op day, four class periods will include the following:

IEW: IEW's Ancient History-Based Lessons

Science: Novare's Earth Science (through TN)

Great Books: Great Books 1 (by TN): Ancient & Classical Times

Logic & History: TPT Primer: Introduction to Logic (by TN), which includes speech, *AND* History 1 (by TN). The class period will be split pretty evenly between these two subjects (some weeks might give more time to one course or the other as needed).

+PLUS (optional after-lunch class): Ancient History Literature discussion and integrated art sketching or handwork (See below**).

R1

Rhetoric 1 (Grades 9-10)

During the co-op day, four class periods will include the following:

LTW: Lost Tools of Writing (Level One)

Science: Novare's General Biology (through TN)

Great Books: Great Books 3 (by TN): Modern Times

Logic & History: TPT 1: Traditional Logic (by TN and Memoria Press), which includes speech, *AND* History 3 (by TN). The class period will be split pretty evenly between these two subjects (some weeks might give more time to one course or the other as needed).

+PLUS (optional after-lunch class): Ancient History Literature discussion and integrated art sketching or handwork (See below**).

R2

Rhetoric 2 (Grades 11-12)

During the co-op day, four class periods will include the following:

LTW: Lost Tools of Writing Comparison Essay in the Fall Semester; In the Spring Semester "LTW: The Research Paper."

Students need to have taken LTW Level One before the Comparison Essay and Research paper courses. If we happen to have new students coming into co-op at the Rhetoric 2 level who have not taken LTW I, then they would need to enroll in the Rhetoric 1 LTW. Also, any of our current students moving up to 11th grade might consider taking another year of LTW 1. Level One teaches foundational skills for all writing and thinking. Students really internalize these skills during their second time through. Of course, this is up to those students and parents.
For The Research Paper class, students will be expected to be proficient in writing the full persuasive essay learned in LTW 1. There will not be direct instruction on how to sort the ANI, how to form the Exordium, Division, Refutation, Amplification, etc., or how to form the outline. Students will have their "old" LTW 1 workbook and handouts for reference and review, but there won't be step-by-step instructions for what they should already know. The focus will be on the research aspect of the writing and refining the parts of the essay.

Science: Novare's General Chemistry (through TN)

Great Books: Great Books 4 (by TN): the American Idea/Government

History: History 4 (by TN). Rhetoric 2 will spend an entire class period on the History course and will no longer study formal Logic.

+PLUS (optional after-lunch class): Ancient History Literature discussion and integrated art sketching or handwork (See below***).

+

PLUS Optional After-Lunch Classes

For +PLUS classes, K-2 will continue with read-aloud books during class and sensory/hands-on activities while listening to the books. At home, students will later narrate to their parents what they remember. Students then illustrate their narration each week.

For *Grades 3-4 and 5-6, students will have 15-20 minutes of a Grammar Workshop lesson to learn the parts of speech and how they function in writing. One class per month will add an introduction to the assigned novel for at-home reading, and one class will focus on book club-style discussion about the book. See the 3-4 Booklist and the 5-6 Booklist on our "Shop the Blog" page.

For Grades **7-8 and 9-10, the PLUS book discussion will be every week. The first week of the month will be an introduction to  the book; the following week will cover the first half of the book; and the final week will cover the last half of book. Art will be integrated into the PLUS class by having students draw, sketch, or even paint during the discussion. No formal art course will be taught, though students may take the Studio Art III Drawing/Painting with Color Course through TN at home. NO ART HOMEWORK. A Commonplace Book will be given to dialectic and rhetoric students to keep notes throughout their PLUS courses over time. There will also be a place for quiet work but not idleness. See the 7-8 Booklist and the 9-12 Booklist on our "Shop the Blog" page.

Grades ***11-12 will have a substantially more involved reading list for Great Books 4, which is a government course, so they may wish to sit in the Rhetoric 9-10 literature class and draw alongside their peers. They will not necessarily have read the books (unless they are just excited to read them!), but they are welcome for the discussion. There will also be a place for quiet work but not idleness.
