Discernment Q & A

Is LUX CHRISTI a good fit for my family?

Q

Will we have the opportunity to go to Mass on Co-op day?

YES!

Daily Mass begins at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at St. John the Baptist. We encourage your family to join us for the Holy Mass. If you find that you have time after lunch and would like to go to Adoration, the chapel is open during daytime hours.

Q

Can I just drop my kids off and not volunteer?

NO

All families must have a parent or guardian volunteering on campus during each co-op day that their children attend. This is not a drop-off style program; this is truly a homeschooling co-op where families work together to give children both learning and community.

Q

We have neurodivergent children; is there a place for us?

YES!

We have many neurodivergent children (and adults!) in our co-op and are always seeking to serve ALL our members. We have a wealth of experience and many ideas for serving children, including a calm-down space and accommodations as needed to the best of our ability. Because we are not a school, we do not utilize IEPs or 504s.

Q

My oldest child is 5. Can I sign up for pre-grammar only?

NO

Our Pre-Grammar program is only meant to support the families homeschooling their Grammar-age and older children, and we hope that you will find that being at home with your young children is exactly what they need. We suggest reading and playing and checking back when your oldest is ready for 1st grade

Q

I have six kids from 18 down to toddler; do you offer something for all of us?

YES!

We have an Upper Level program for 7th-12th graders, and we have Grammar level classes for 1st-6th grades. Younger siblings are welcome to join Pre-Grammar classes for ages 3-6, and there is a nursery for your toddlers and babies, as needed. You are welcome to keep nursing babies in babywearing wraps on you while you volunteer, but toddlers are encouraged to try the nursery.

Q

Is Lux Christi an accredited school in the state of Texas?

NO

We are NOT a school and are therefore not accredited. YOU are the homeschooling parent, and the state of Texas requires you to educate your children in a bona fide manner. You assign all homework and grades, though in Upper Level classes, this is done in a flipped classroom style (online courses the students take that prepare them for Co-op day discussions). We do not assign credits or transcripts; the homeschooling parent does that.

Q

Are ALL of the supplies, snacks, and lunch included in the supply fee?

NO

Supplies are included for the co-op day only, and this includes art and science materials for all levels. To streamline and give added material for use at home, we will give grammar-level children a companion notebook. You will add curriculum choices as you see fit, as the companion notebooks are meant only as a jumping-off point. Digital downloads are available for free for your printing at home. YOU provide your children's snacks and lunches.

Q

Is everyone on campus required to be Safe Environment trained?

YES!

YES. All people ages 18 and up must take the Safe Environment Training offered by CMG Connect through the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, submit a background check, and receive a certificate of completion. Certificates are good for five years and must be turned in to the Facility Coordinator each year.

This DOES include children who will turn 18 during the school year.

Q

Will you provide all I need for the week at home?

NO

We only provide programming for Wednesday, however, with your enrollment you will receive access to all the grammar-level coursework through Schola Rosa and upper level students receive access for their grade level through Traditio Nostra. These are online curriculum sources, and you CAN follow each subject as you desire at home. Or you can choose other curricula freely. YOU choose how to homeschool your children, as you are the primary educator.

Only one enrollment option can be selected at a time; please return to this page to add a second option as needed.

Direct, we beseech thee, O Lord,
our actions by thy holy inspirations,
and carry them on by thy gracious assistance,
that every prayer and work of ours
may always begin from thee,
and through thee be happily ended.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
