The Grammar Program at Co-op
for Grades K-6
The Grammar Stage is a time for absorbing and memorizing information, and so our Co-op uses the Classically Catholic Memory program arranged by Schola Rosa in three cycles. CYCLE 3 will be the focus of the 2025-2026 school year, and it zooms in on "Modern Times and America" beginning with the Renaissance and on through current day, as well as a scientific emphasis on Chemistry and Physics. Cycle 1 begins with Creation through the fall of the Roman Republic, with a scientific emphasis on Plant and Animal Life. Cycle 2 covers the Christian Age from Jesus' coming through the High Middle Ages (0-1300), with a scientific emphasis on Earth Science.

At Co-op, the day for Grammar-age students begins with a 40-minute Assembly. During Assembly, we begin with a morning prayer and pledge, as well as announcements. Then an assigned family will introduce the week's Virtue with a short presentation about what it is and how it is lived. The Chorus leader will then instruct the students in the Latin hymn or prayer as well as other songs or hymns. Lastly, a Memory Work Leader will introduce the Unit's Timeline with hand motions, and then the Math memory work. Upon dismissal from Assembly, students will rotate through 40-minute blocks of classes as shown below.

RELIGION (K-2)
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium time
40 minutes
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a program created by Sofia Cavalletti, a Catholic scholar of Hebrew Scripture and contemporary of Maria Montessori. Using Montessori's techniques, the Atrium she created is a prepared environment for children in which they can come to know Jesus as the Good Shepherd in a very real, tangible way, and themselves as the sheep He loves. Incorporating Sacred Scripture and hands-on manipulatives created for them, children work with materials especially curated to allow them to ponder and wonder at the mysteries of our Faith.
RELIGION (3rd-6th)
Into the Deep Homeschool Catechesis for Grades 3-6
40 minutes
Into the Deep is a beautiful homeschool program that is entirely Scripturally based and is a restful, meditative way for older children to ponder the mysteries of Faith through God's own words and the story of Salvation History. We hope to provide children with a commonplace notebook to ponder and draw in while exploring the beautiful materials, art pieces, musical works, and associated picture books along with the scripted presentations of Into the Deep. We plan to use Level One for Grade 3; Level Two for Grade 4; the Unit Study on the Beatitudes for Grade 5 (along with learning a handwork activity to do while resting in God's word and the beauty of musical pieces written by the masters); and Level 3 for Grade 6.
MEMORY WORK
Classically Catholic Memory (CCM) Schola Rosa Edition (organized into three cycles instead of four)
This backbone of simple memory work material will be covered in all Grammar grades. The CCM memory work explores these nine subjects: Religion, Scripture, Latin, History, Science, Math, Timeline, Geography, and Great Words. Religion and Scripture will be covered during Into the Deep or Atrium time; Science during Science class; Geography, History, and Great Words during the 40-minute block devoted those; Latin, Math, and Timeline during the morning Assembly.

Part of your Grammar children's supply fee includes a curated Companion Notebook with weekly activities for each of the nine memory work subjects. The Companion Notebook will contain printed blanks and keys of each map along with age-appropriate materials to engage your children throughout the week. Review materials will encourage your children to master the memory work as they go! You are free to dive as deeply as you wish at home, or simply skim the surface of the memory work in class only.
OPTIONAL
+PLUS LITERATURE DISCUSSION
and English Grammar course after lunch and recess
The Schola Rosa online suite includes a Language Arts program, but Lux Christi will offer an optional after-lunch +PLUS Literature Course with the Grammar Workshop included and assigned novels based on grade levels (K-2, 3-4, 5-6). The Grammar Workshop component offers lessons on the parts of speech, figurative language devices, phrase, clause, and sentence construction, and more. This class will be a restful book club-like discussion that students are invited to join in after they have prepared by reading the materials. Tea time snacks will be served. For this course, enrollment is free, but students will need to purchase (at our Co-op discount rate) the appropriate Book of Goodness from Luminous Homeschooling; and parents of 3rd-6th graders should purchase the Book of Goodness Instructor Guide so that they can lead their children through the week's work of the Grammar Workshop.

To get an idea of your child's reading level, we recommend scrolling down to the Reading Level Assessment at this link. You will need to know which set of books you'd like your child to read, as classes are grouped by K-2 (picture book read-alouds in class only), Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, Grades 7-8, and Grades 9-12, in order to enroll your children in the course. Please view the Cycle 3 Book Lists here.
